Some really good writing here, Great plots,some great sex and a very likable main character.Set in NYC and if you know the city and the theatre (Jimmy's mother is the long time head usher at a Broadway house)
you will love it even more The stories (all three books) are rich with details and the inner voice of the protagonist is part of the fun.
I hope Mr. Carpenter writes lots and lots more (kinda like the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew for grown-ups)

Mr. Carpenter's Jimmy McSwain books are always enjoyable if a little dark. The insights into blue collar family life in New York are very different from most gay male novels set in NYC.
Entertaining series. I've bought and read them all. Series gives a nice and authentic taste of New York. Main characters need more development because they come off as one dimensional. Secondary characters -- like the sisters and uncle-- are little more than cardboard cutouts.
Set in Manhattan this tough private investigator always seeking the answer to his policeman father's murder years ago, finds not only interconnections while solving another case; he also discovers hot sex with a powerful rising star in the NYPD who must keep his true self hidden from the public. Excellent
This book was a disappointment. The author spent to many paragraphs with Jimmy's self talk explaining or rehashing most everything past or present. It side tracked and detracted from the action taking place. None of it added to the scenes that were unfolding.
Well-plotted story with a likeable main character. I especially liked how the detective's friends and family accepted him as a gay man. The ending seemed a bit flat, though. And it could have used some editing - there were distracting spelling mistakes throughout.
A fine follow-up to the first novel in the series;Crime Wave A nicely paced, well-crafted mystery featuring strong motivations for actions committed; enduring love. Looking forward to reading the next in the series. For audio book lovers, Joel Leslie is incredible performing this awesome novel; his spot-on voice inflections helped to make the characters come alive with the descriptions, action and words written by Carpenter.
